We're Done! RZINE Complete!

Our zine was put up on Thursday! You can visit our zine at http://www.rzine.net/

Here are screenshots of the airplane promotion project I made with Lynea. I taught the class how to fold my design after Lynea and I made the layout below.

And here's how it turned out:

A Brief Update ~

We're almost done with the online magazine! It'll go live next week! I made the creativity page you'll be able to see and I'm currently working with another student on a paper airplane promotion strategy to get the word out on campus. It looks pretty good so far! Today I'll be teaching the class how to fold the plane design that I made. It flies amazingly and looks sharp. I can't wait to see them around campus. Another thing I worked on these past few weeks besides the creativity page and helping out with promotion, was ringling snapshot images around campus of students working. The class all did a part of the snapshot piece of Ringling that will be featured in the magazine. I'll put the video at the end of this post. I also edited my first project on technology. I changed the music(killertracks) and quickened the video speed. It's a lot stronger now and we've updated the link on wix. I've put the new video at the end of this post as well.
I like the cover of our magazine and the creative look on each section. I'm glad we worked separately on the sections so that each section because they all look fresh. That didn't make the whole magazine look separate though. We were pretty consistent in layout because of the smart choice of choosing a layout in the beginning as a layout basis. As a whole, this really strengths the magazine (not to mention all the strong cool stuff we've done). I like the outcome of the magazine and was surprised. We really did an awesome job as a class!!

This is the EDITED VERSION of the first technology project I did:

Where Ideas Come From

Personally, creativity comes from dreams, imagination from daydreams, and from connections we make from daily situations to unique ideas.

My two favorite quotes:
"Put your desk in the corner, and every time you sit down there to write, remind yourself why it isn't in the middle of the room. Life isn't a support-system for art. It's the other way around." -Stephen King
"It's not what you look at that matters, it's what you see." -Henry David Thoreau

5 links of artists I like:

My goal to improve my creativity is by keeping a journal/sketchbook of ideas and dreams. I've done my project as a creative what-to-do animation to get more ideas, or rather hone your ability to enhance new ideas.

Cover Design

My cover design is on my wix site for the rzine. I had some troubles with the site, and already prefer dreamweaver over it. The keys for one thing are completely different from what I'm used to. It's hard to change habits! Nevertheless, there are some pretty snazzy things on wix. Here's my attempt;

Then & Now: Project 2 Complete

Emily and I just completed our combined project on Wix. Since I have technology and she has environment, we made a site Now & Then to show how we have technology now that saves the environment verses our old technology. Check out our site!

Unused Technology in Your Own Hands

The project I did above depicts a short segment of what you can do with just a few applications on a mac computer - most of which the majority never uses or doesn't know about. Dig around your computers. You've got plenty of interesting technology waiting to be discovered.

New Technology - Our Speedy Culture

We've ditched choices as a class, so I've decided that new technology is as interesting and important to research.

So my theme is technology. I have to create a piece on something of new technology. I have a few ideas based off of research links that I've gotten from a computer engineer. I'll update you later with the progress of this piece that will either be in Flash or Adobe After Effects.

A Reflection of Our Culture

Digital image 1024 x 768 that reflects our fast-paced, tech savvy, digital culture.

Defining the Audience:

Who is your target audience? Ages 17-21

What do they like? Anything with humor usually wins, but clever things also were a favorite. Flickr, tumblr, blogspot.

What do they look at? Funny YouTube videos, interesting (cleverly done, unique) sites.

Are they risktakers or are they really conservative? Risk-takers for the most part, never going to conservative sites.

What do they buy? Unique arts and apparel that identifies themselves.

Why? I asked around and got some good feedback. Many people just want to see something funny/unique/ and even things that feature making a difference for the better.

  • Ask your friends (anywhere) to send you pictures, samples, urls, statements, words, drawings, etc. that help to define your audience.
  • style (clothes, hair, tattoos, etc.)
  • colors (saturated, unsaturated, color schemes?)
  • technology

OK. So here's a list of links that I've compiled from asking around;

What Would You Do?

We're in class right now researching on topics for our zine. What we were going to do got me thinking about the ABC t.v. series, What Would You Do? The series is on ethical scenarios. We as artists have plenty of these scenarios - in the technological, natural, and in our daily lives. Artists are usually easy going. Would we speak up whether right or wrong to help others or the world around us? It'd be an awesome story to get a scenario based on our overarching theme. This theme that we've built upon is - connection - in technology, identity, environment, media, and choices. Choices. That's where I like to do more research on. I'm very interested in the psychology of what we do and the choices we make. As artists, we make creative and interesting choices everyday. How do artists make a difference in the world? We're here for a reason, right? What would you do?

Project Start-Up; R-ZINE

R-ZINE is an on-line magazine that explores the web as a new medium for art. Students will be working with concept, text, image, sound, sequencing, video, simple animation and interactivity. This course will take students through the entire process of creating and publishing an on-line art magazine.
Right now as a class we are looking for a concept of our online mag. The concept doesn't have to be for the full magazine, ie the pages all don't have to be on the same ideas. We're basically trying to figure out an overall theme that we could tie the whole site together. I have a few ideas such as a map with stop motion clips to transition into the next page.

The only thing we really need at this point is the WHAT. What are we going to make this online magazine about? What interests current users online to read/visit any website? It has to be interesting, unique, and somewhat up to date with the current technology. Well, don't worry about being up to speed, we've got the technology, we just need a little feedback from readers. What would you like to see?
